Sorry. I would probably react better if I wasn't stressed by sudden
storm of concerns about the way all the pieces of puzzle named AFROS are
operating together :-)

Anyway, I dug into my Inbox and found this reply from Johan, dated May
24, 2002:

Also, note that it currently would not be possible to do any handling
of console output before the AES opens the workstation. Until then,
it is not even known which driver (well, currently only a single one
is supported) corresponds to the main screen. Not that text output
should necessarily go to the main screen, but...
(Allowing direct text output to the same screen as the VDI is writing
to is really not a good idea at all. For compatibility reasons, it
is perhaps necessary to make it an option, however.)

So you see, we've been discussing it and you can also read the reasons
why fVDI currently does not output anything before desktop starts (the
"blocking" as Konrad called it).

A good solution would perhaps be something like a "late initialization"
where fVDI would let the shifter/videl do its output until the AES would
open the workstation. I don't know if it's possible to do it this way,
it's just an immediate idea. Johan (or perhaps Odd) could help in this
technical topic.

P.S. Interesting how many things can be hidden in a Shutdown() thread.
