So you'll have to configure the cursor-keys for nano too, or does it also
use readline?

Nope, but why does it work in conholio out of the box then, while there is nothing configured?

I've just installed nano from Alan. It says in the help-page:

(M-C) Constant cursor position display enable/disable

But Esc-C is the VT52-code for cursor-right, so there might be a clash.

(Btw. conholio has another bug regarding nano, it sometimes eats a single chracter from the text your editing / current line, so that's another reason why conholio isn't perfect for this scenario)

It has too many issues to be usable in a real environment.
