For me the problem appeared when linking the 68000 Kernel (during a  
make all in the freemint directory):

I fixed it using the following commands (which create a symlink for  
libgcc.a to libgcc16.a):
  cd /opt/cross-mint/lib/gcc/m68k-atari-mint/4.4.3
  ln -s mshort/libgcc.a libgcc16.a

You have to adapt the command to your environment (e.g. /usr/ instead  
of /opt/cross-mint/ and the 4.4.2 instead of 4.4.3).
After that, the build continued without problem. But I'm not sure if  
the kernel produced by this hack is working. I don't have a 68000  
machine to test it.
