Sometime ago I asked myself also about this.
If I want to make a rpm package of a GEM application, where should the
application be installed inside the sparemint directory tree?
I also saw that the people that did this before have used /opt,  ej: toswin
Yeah, it's a dilemma. As Linux doesn't make a difference for graphical and console apps (you can find both kinds in /usr/bin), maybe we could adopt it -- app in /usr/GEM/app (or /opt/GEM/app?) and link in /usr/bin to it.
