How do you start all the other services ?  init starts everything in the
proper way.

I tried to get mint.cnf to create the proper symlink but it cannot overwrite
the old one, it can only create an new one.

Miro's $SYSDIR ide looks better but it won't help to start NAES

Like I said at the start of this thread, we make mistakes and this was just
an idea to help people out when there is a kernel/folder problem.

Maybe you developers are changing set-ups so often that you have a really
good robust system and you go though the same steps every time.

Updating becomes more of a problem if you only do it occasionally or haven't
done it at all. In these situations mistakes are possible.
