It is not necessarily a bug in malloc. I use a handmade malloc in my own  
programs, and I often had crashes inside malloc and friends, but in most  
(if not all) of these cases the memory was corrupted by something else,  
it's just that malloc notices that first. Even when it's always the same  
place where the crash occurs. So at least a stacktrace would be be needful.
