[MiNT] Mint Newbie!

Hi

I'd like some advice regarding my Mint setup and specifically FTP access.

My set up is  Mega STe, 4mb, HD, Mint 1.17 and NetUSB ethernet / USB 
adaptor (using ENEC.XIF).

I'm also using XaAES v0.998 and Teradesk 4.01 with AFTP

What I'd realistically like is the the most cut down, streamlined Mint 
set up possible (memory wise and usuage wise)

Basically all I'll be using Mint for is transferring files to my PC, I'm 
not interested in groovy looking GUI's or even the multi tasking 
opportunities (old-school!).

So can anyone tell me the best set up to use... currently my FTP 
transfers stop intermittently and sometimes the ST locks up.
