Exactly:  echo $UNIXMODE shows "/brUs"

This shows:
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Just tried latest build (today 17:28) helmut-12012010.tar.bz2:
The problem remains the same.
I'll try removing and re-installing bzip2...tomorrow.
