Ok I found it. I also had to declare THINGDIR in xaaes.cnf

So I added these lines to the cnf created by Easymint to get the
desktop and apps to work as before.

setenv THINGDIR    C:\MING\
setenv HOME        u:\home

Still no progress with mail, ftp etc. Hence the short messages.
