I can't explain all of your misteries, :) but I can shed some light on
some details:

If that's the console window, then that's correct. The toswin console
window is just a window to capture messages that go out to the console,
which would otherwise be written across your AES graphics.

The only reason I can think of for the console window being disabled, is
that xconout2.xdd is not installed. Could this have anything to do with
it?
