Well, on Linux (and on most other Unices as well), it's a big
performance gain to run two (or more) fscks in parallel when the
partitions in question are on different physical devices - even better
when they're on different busses. As there's no non-blocking I/O for
MiNT ATM, it won't work yet, but that's no reason not to be prepared for
it.

Of course, you don't want to run interactive fscks in parallel, but for
a "prune" fsck (no questions, auto-repair if possible), it's OK - and
that's exactly what happens after a non-clean shutdown/crash.
