Where is this information available? i.e. in witch file and where? I think
you should have /etc/ppp/pap-secrets

kellis	*	passwd

And you do run pppd something like this ? ;

#!/bin/sh
pppd /dev/ttyb 115200 crtscts connect "/usr/etc/chat -v -f /etc/ppp/chat-script"

where chat-script file could look like this;

'' ATZ OK ATDTISP'S_PHONE CONNECT ''

At leas works fine in my system and I took pppd and chat from YESCrew site
IIRC ...
