problem with gcc 2.7.2 preprocessor?

Would someone please try this with gcc 2.7.2 for MiNT:

gcc -P -E -x assembler-with-cpp -c _normdf.cpp -o test.s

Where _normdf.cpp is one of the assembler files in the MiNTlib.
In the middle of the output file there is a terrible mess of \n,
\t and \r characters.  Please someone tell me this is nothing to
worry about. :-/
