 btw i've had to give it >200K stack before it processed a 200K file
without crash...  and then i went back to sed 1.18 :-/

 may depend on the shell, i.e. could be one of those wonderful
blocking-fork deadlocks...  although i haven't yet seen configure
hanging myself.  (my /bin/sh is ash from sh03*zoo on a.a)
